The author Simon Sinek wrote a great book, called ‘Start with Why’… Why are we doing this, that or anything? Our “why” may be the most important detail we have. In an effort to share our ‘Why’ with you, we respectfully offer the following:

Our ‘Why’…

Why are we waging this fight? This is far more than just a money thing. We are also a group of people who don’t want to embrace the ‘victim mentality’ that has been so damaging to our culture. We are simply standing up to a bully. We are willing to wage the fight, not just for us, but for others as well, but what we need is ‘ammunition’. In this situation, that ‘ammunition’ we need is financial in nature.  We have a great lawyer, who is a partner in a small, but scrappy firm. But due to the size of his firm, they can’t operate on ‘full contingency’. So, we’re on a pay-as-we-go program. We’re willing to take on the stress and legal battles, and the law firm needs to keep the lights on at their office. But that’s why we’re asking for your help. We’ll go fight Goliath, we just need the 5 smooth stones to do it.

What we’re NOT:

We are not looking for a cake-walk. We’re not looking for a life of hand-outs. We are not doing this for personal or “private inurement” (the legal term for pocketing the money). We are fighting back against a governmental bully (the City of Seattle) who has virtually unlimited financial resources. We’re rowing a canoe into a naval battle with an aircraft carrier….and we’re going to keep paddling. We’re also NOT political. This isn’t about Blue, vs. Green vs. Purple, vs. Red. (Even if we wanted to be political, we can’t be)

So, any and all funds raised go directly towards the legal expenses.

This isn’t just about our group. If public agencies think they can trample on one civil right, it’s only a matter of time before they trample on other ones as well. So, we’re not just standing up for our own situation, we’re also looking to establish a respect for other civil rights, other theological beliefs, even if they differ from ours.
