Fighting for Freedom, Justice, and Accountability
In the fall of 2021, after serving through the “unknowns” of the covid issues, about 65 now former Seattle firefighters were removed from duty for declining the covid shot. Even though the mayor’s mandate had specific verbiage allowing for exemptions and clearly spelled out accommodations, the city chose to process out those people. Some happened quickly while others were delayed. These brave men and women, who dedicated their careers to saving lives and serving others, were discriminated against, treated hostilely, and illegally stripped of their employment and livelihoods without any meaningful due process or the accommodations that were clearly outlined as an option.
Now, they are fighting back.
This lawsuit is about more than jobs—it’s about civil rights, religious and medical freedom, and holding public institutions accountable for illegal discriminatory practices. While the City of Seattle uses taxpayer dollars to fund its defense with a high priced Chicago based legal firm ( the city is not even using their own staff lawyers) these former Seattle firefighters are funding this with a pay-as-you-go plan, out of pocket. Yes, it is accurate, these former Seattle firefighters are fighting for justice, but even when stripped of their livelihoods, they are still fighting for the rights of others by standing up to the bully tactics of the city government.
Why It Matters
