Mark Nelson
Lieutenant Mark Nelson began his career in the fire service on March 28, 1990, answering a call to serve his community with courage and commitment. For 16 years, he proudly worked as a firefighter on Engine 21, Ladder 10, Ladder 9, and Ladder 5, gaining a reputation for his reliability, teamwork, and calm presence on even the toughest calls.
His dedication and leadership earned him a promotion to Lieutenant, where he went on to serve with distinction on Engine 24 and Ladder 6. Throughout his career, Mark was known not only for his skill and professionalism, but also for mentoring younger firefighters and building strong, lasting bonds with his crew.
In May 2023, after more than three decades of service, Mark’s career was brought to an early and unexpected end when he was forced into retirement due to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Though the decision was beyond his control, he remains proud of his time in the fire service and the impact he made.
Mark is married to his wife and steadfast supporter, Lisa Nelson, and is the proud father of Karianne, Zach, and Tyler. In retirement, he continues to stand by the values that guided his career: faith, integrity, and service to others.
