John Cizin
John Cizin began his service with the Seattle Fire Department on January 10, 2001. Over the course of his two-decade career, he served the communities of Rainier Valley and West Seattle with pride and dedication, working as an Engine Driver and Pump Operator at Engine 28 and Engine 29. He was known for his technical skill and reliability in high-pressure situations.
Prior to his firefighting career, John served 8.5 years in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and a Navy SEAL, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to service. Throughout his career with the fire department, John often worked multiple jobs to support his family and ensure his children received a strong education. These included roles in pressure washing, motion-capture acting for video games, and teaching Maritime Interdiction Operations to SWAT teams across the country through the Department of Homeland Security.
John is married to his wife, Elizabeth, and together they have two children—John (23) and Emily (21)—both engineering students at the University of San Diego, preparing to commission into the U.S. Navy. His service with the Seattle Fire Department ended on November 1, 2021, following a work-related injury and subsequent termination while on workers’ compensation.
John remains a symbol of perseverance, faith, and selfless service.
